Rico's Setup and Game Tips

My configuration including keyboard layout
I haven't set up any bindings yet, but I would like to try them out

Command line (note my version is the full retail so the path may look different):
C:\SIERRA\Counter-Strike\cstrike.exe -console

My configuration file: config.cfg in cstrike

Keyboard and mouse layout:
I have my left hand on the keyboard as though I was set up to type. My index finger is on F, which has the little nub on it to make sure you know where your fingers are, my pinky is on A.

This is my mouse. I am very proud of it.
Right hand on the mouse (intellimouse explorer with roller wheel and two thumb buttons)

Keys:

E: flashlight
A: spray logo
Z: radio (never used this yet, but could be useful)
R: reload weapon (I hate forgetting to use this one!!)
G: use item (hostages, defuse, etc)
H: drop item (this caused me to throw my weapon away once while I was trying
to rescue the hostage)
O: buy equipment (first key I hit at the beginning of each round)
, : buy primary ammo
. : buy secondary ammo
B: buy menu (full)
U: voice chat (but I use the mouse now)
Y: text chat all
T: text chat team
TAB: bring up scores
~ : bring up console
1 : select primary weapon
2 : select secondary weapon
3 : select knife
4 : select grenades
5 : select c4 explosive
(roller wheel on mouse can select weapons too, but I find the keyboard easier for some reason)

F: move backwards
E: flashlight
S: strafe (side step) left
D: strafe right (I strafe all the time)
C: crouch
space: jump

Mouse:
I use the mouse for looking around and moving sideways, running and shooting etc.
right button: run
left button: shoot
roller wheel button (not rolling): zoom in, add silencer, etc depending on
weapon selected
thumb button 1: voice chat
thumb button 2: select grenade (same and keyboard 4)
I don't really roll the roller to select weapons. I just push it for
alternate functions for certain weapons.

The very first thing I do is push key O to buy my kevlar and any grenades if
I can afford them.

Next I hit B for buying my weapon of choice.

Then I run around and look for people. I have found that patience is a real
virtue. Everytime I try a macho move by storming into an area, I get nailed
and have to spectate the rest of the round.

Aim for the head or upper body. You can plug 5 pistol shots into a persons
chest or legs and all he has to did is hit you in the head once.

When shooting with a machine gun or automatic rifle, take a few shots, then
stop and take some more. If you just hold the fire button down, your aim
will go in the toilet fast.

Crouch with a pistol for better accuracy.

Use your grenades!!! Mark has started using the flashbangs very effectively
and I often find myself a blind, sitting duck.

Make sure you have hud_centerid = "1". This is the best thing I have done!!

When spectating or playing, watch for patterns that certain players follow.
Use this to your advantage, and at the same time, try not to do the same
thing every time.

Don't sit in the same place too long. You will probably be found.
